#317

March 5, 2017

NOTES

  • Pethetigo’s plea of “think of the children” is of course a reference to Helen Lovejoy
  • Demandice gets the drop on Tremenz and bisects him with her fan

#316

February 26, 2017

NOTES

  • The Midirian Empire calls back their Pendulords and aerosoldiers (panel 1), weakening Castle Creepwood’s defenses
  • Tremenz and his army (including Harangutang, panel 6) move to occupy Castle Creepwood
  • Pethetigo (7) was last seen in #244

#315

February 19, 2017

NOTES

  • Codefathers Subliminus and Zardoza have taken refuge in what has turned out to be some form of ship
  • Zardoza’s equipment displays the following images: Gargrudgen towering over the shore of Midiria (2); Refusaleth at the Tournament (3); Holocough obliterating Inway (5); Imperial Pendulords in Creepwood (8)

#314

February 12, 2017

NOTES

  • The Questioneer speaks a Dread Conundrum to his doppelgänger, revealed to be Daemir Daggerbite
  • Dread Conundrums are questions or revelations that break the integrity of the Narrative; Daemir was able to see and breathe in the Questioneer mask until questioned about it, like a cartoon character that runs off a cliff and only falls after realizing they’re in mid-air
  • The real Quondrian Questioneer jumps out of the airship with the fourth Prime Resinate fragment in panel 5
  • Essul recognizes Daemir, and Daemir can see the Gargrudgen on the Midirian shore from the airship, because they are insanely big

#313

February 5, 2017

NOTES

  • First appearance of Nefaria the Red Queen; visually, she is inspired by Xayide (Clarissa Burt), the evil sorceress from The NeverEnding Story II: The Next Chapter (1990)
  • First appearance of Crybdeth, commander of Bonehenge, and Marrowort, his subordinate, panel 2 (right to left, respectively)
  • Crybdeth refers to Nefaria as “prisoner number one”, to avoid giving her power by speaking her name aloud
  • Nefaria is probably the only prisoner in Bonehenge
  • Can she see them?

#312

January 29, 2017

NOTES

  • Shiraadh is stinking up the interior of the mountain grinder with foul language
  • What are those ten lights moving up from the abyss?

#311

January 22, 2017

NOTES

  • Fortress Refusaleth: Mogrum is “reclaimed” by Darkana, who emerges from his shadow
  • Darkana reveals herself as the one who blinded Mogrum (when he was Mog-Rifect), after occupying one of Nefaria’s old monstrances
  • Everything Mogrum knows, Darkana now knows

#310

January 15, 2017

NOTES

  • There is a Gravers sign in panel 1, and are those “Simon” games?
  • A “Bismink” is the type of conveyance that Zaz and Essul were riding in

#309

January 8, 2017

NOTES

  • Could there be a reason why Yakimastu Obeisan and Refusaleth have the same hair and skin color? Yakimastu even has a nose ring
  • Refusaleth delineates his finding of the living-rock Gargiles on the bottom of Lake Ziera (the “Sunken Kingdom”), and how he corrupted them by overloading them with true evil, combining them into the colossal Gargrudgen, who carried him across the ocean to Midiria
  • Refusaleth fires a full potency blast at Yakimastu’s face in panel 7, which would have vaporized his head, had the councilor not professed his lack of belief in Refusaleth’s existence

#308

January 1, 2017

NOTES

  • First page of 2017, on the first day of 2017
  • Dedurum notes that Refusaleth cannot fly, despite his immense power
  • Panel 5 is a direct reference to a famous photograph of this incident
